eBook Review: Tornado Bait by Amy Eastlake
"Tornado Bait" by Amy Eastlake is a marvelous murder mystery novel. The setting is very unconventional in that most of the action takes place in a shabby Texas trailer park. "Tina", our protagonist is a 2o-something woman who manages the park, a body is found in the waste tank of one of her trailers and the police think she might just be the murderer. Tina launches her own investigation to clear her name, only she does not know where to begin or really, how to investigate.Written in the first person, our narrator Tina, has a wise-cracking "Philip Marlow" type wit. I found myself often chuckling along with her observations. But the humor does not get in the way of the mystery and that is quite an accomplishment for any writer, but Amy Eastlake brings it off with style: I was entertained, I had empathy for the characters, the setting was great and the writing was well polished. Amy Eastlake is a good writer.
My only criticism is I would have liked to have the loose ends tied up a little better at the very end of the book, but that is a minor thing. The main mystery is resolved in good order. I recommend Tornado Bait, and Amy Eastlake's other ebooks are on my buy list as well.
